Robin Lynn Smith — In Memoriam

With deep sadness we announce the death of Robin Smith on June 22, 2017. For many years, Robin joined Deb Taylor in presenting “Books Not on the Reading List,” a discussion of books related to the theme of each CLNE symposium but not included on the required or recommended reading lists.  After attending this session, CLNE participants were eager to read all the books they reviewed!  Robin taught second grade at the Ensworth School in Nashville, TN for 24 years. She creatively fostered a love for books, reading and knitting in her students. She was an energetic advocate for outstanding children’s literature and served on many ALA award committees.  She wrote articles and reviewed books forKirkus ReviewsBookPage and The Horn Book Magazine.  She contributed her knowledge, humor and strong opinions, always nicely put, to the Horn Book’sCalling Caldecott blog. Her warm friendliness, wit, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by her many colleagues in the field of children’s literature and by participants in CLNE. Our deep condolences are offered to her husband, Dean Schneider and to her children Andrew and Julie.
